about

KNOX's new single, "Carry the Moon," is an unexpected hymn of stark simplicity. As the title suggests, "Carry the Moon" is a love song full of self-torturing promises and quietly vexed longing. The listener feels nearly embraced by the dry and honest closeness of the recording, apparently done in one live take. A lone and plaintive electric guitar humbly traces the melody of the voice, lilting together in unison. The song's use of space is just as striking, evoking the unhurried expanse of country plains, foggy and rife with the discontented heart's wanderings (wonderings). The music video further unearths the narrator's secret suffering. We are offered a black and white portrait of a woman, a softly lit bust in the darkness. Her movements are barely distinguishable at first yet effusive. As her dedications intensify, she is met by the resistance of three pairs of hands, brutal and invasive ones. The woman is barraged by physical obstacles, but wholly resolved to deliver her message of love, a clear manifestation of the nature of self-sacrificing devotion.

lyrics

I'd take falls for two
one for you
I would
make sooner soon

I'd ache all the pain
strive for you
I would
carry the moon

I'd make all the day's
light for you
I would
carry the moon
